Prime Minister Theresa May is with the strong opinion that the Brexit withdrawal plan she drafted is an excellent tool to prevent immigrants from Europe from having unrestricted movement and has gone ahead to make new efforts to trade out the agreement.
Theresa May’s Proposed New Policy
According to her, European immigrants will no longer be ranked higher than any other persons from other places. She said that the bases for migration to the UK would strictly be based on skills and not on nationality. She also made several appeals to the leaders in the Business sector of the Central Bureau of Investigation, stating that there had been a full agreement to her drafted plan.
The Scottish First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon considered this statement by the PM as being offensive. He said that her choice of words for describing the decision strategically taken by the country was very embarrassing.
The Prime Minister said that when Brexit is over, London will fully control the borders of UK, thus giving it the freedom to decide its own immigration policies. She desires a system that centers on skills and experiences, where software developers from India or Engineers from Sydney will be treated the same as the Europeans. She hopes that the new proposal will open opportunities for youths in the country to acquire skills and access to jobs.
Effects of Proposal
Lately, there have been reports of reduced business investment in the United Kingdom. Companies in Britain and India have been keeping a close watch on the situation in Brexit. Businesses have even relocated to European Union cities like Frankfurt and Paris just to ensure continuity. In addition to that, Vince Cable said that it is expected that for as long as it can be predicted, businesses in Britain will face uncertainties.
A member of the Economic Policy Group has noted that Theresa May has rightful said that Indians will have equal opportunities for immigration to the UK like the Europeans. However, he predicts that this will lead to a deficiency in the number of low skilled workers in the country, thus making it difficult to have enough hands for meagre jobs. He also noted that this might raise the cost of processing a visa.
Sturgeon mentioned that the new Brexit proposal would inevitably lead to uncertainties for businesses.
