India Might Benefit From UK Group Seeking Work Visa

On Tuesday, a parliamentary group from the UK released a new report of the country’s disposition as a wonderful destination for higher education and called for the introduction of a post-study work visa as a strategy to encourage more students from India to study in British Universities.

In conclusion to a report by the All Party Parliamentary Group for international students, a positive and ambitious plan is needed as soon as possible to generate sustainable development in the seventh most significant export market in Britain and curtail the decrease in the number of students signing up from advanced countries like India.

Effect of Categorizing Nations

According to the report, it was stated that pulling out the Post Study Work Visa was related to the decrease in the number of international students in the UK from major countries like India. It was also mentioned that according to the UK’s Higher Education Statistics Agency, between the period of 2010/11 and 2016/17, the number of international students enrolling for higher education dropped by more than half.

The report also records that India has been let off from the growing list of countries that are at low-risk for a more streamlined student visa application. Categorizing foreigners into high or low risk establishes an insecure atmosphere for international students in the United Kingdom. An indication of this was greatly felt in India, and the report suggested that risk examination should be done from individual circumstances and not on nationality.

The party’s new report contains 12 suggestions which it claims to have the ability to restore the eight-year failing competitive prowess of the UK in the nation-wide educational sector when all 12 are being considered together. Apart from the excellent post study program which gives students the opportunity to gain up to two years’ work experience in the United Kingdom after acquiring their degree, the group also pronounces that migration rules should enable and inspire students to study in the UK at the various levels.

Reactions to the Report

Lord Karan Bilimoria, a co-chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on International students, said that Canada receives more students from India than the UK does. In his opinion, the suggestions offered in the report are very commendable. He also said that Britain is losing the battle of attracting committed and talented foreigners and that for the past eight years, priority has been placed on unfeasible targets with deceptive statistics resulting in placing the United Kingdom as second in the rank of countries mostly chosen by international students. He said that it is high time the country emphasized getting international students to school there.

The report also contains suggestions that higher institutions should follow, partnering with the Government to attract a large number of international students. It claims that it is the first report that combines recommendations that can spontaneously bring about springs of development in different parts of the country and every level of academic attainment.

Professor Koen Lamberts, who is the vice chancellor of the University of Sheffield notes that strategies suggested in the report will help the nation rise again in the struggle for more international students and as such, urges the Government of UK to adhere to this suggestions.

Paul Blomfield mentioned that there is a need for the establishment of a pushy policy that can increase students’ enrollment, establish new policies, and coax international students to come into the country. He claims that the importance of international students and their contributions to the country cannot be underemphasized.

Based on the report that had been published, the party intends to majorly support the program within parliament and also when the expected immigration bill is passed, equally inspiring the Government to support the recommendations.
