Australia Asks Media to Maintain Secrecy over Boat Operations

Guardian Australia’s scribe, Paul Farrell, is consistently seeking access to the files of boat operations from 2013 and 2014, under the freedom of ‘access to information’.

For national security reasons, the Australian Government wants these asylum-seeker boat turn-backs, to be kept secret. Now that the information is open to the public domain, the status of the documents is unclear and it seems it had been released intentionally to the public.

Australia has been sending back migrant ships since September 18th, 2013 to bring the nation under its Sovereign borders. The operations that include maritime dimensions are being patrolled by the naval force in its territorial waters.

Justin Davidson, from the Australian Government Solicitor agency, had stated that when documents were provided to the respondent, the information on the second set was incomplete.
