Australia Plans to Attract More Migrants

The Government of Australia has introduced new visa agreements which permit employers to sponsor foreign employees into the country. The employees will be accepted with a lower salary and English levels. With this, the next stream of immigrants coming in might be evenly distributed to other places aside major cities, like regions.

There are two new visa agreements on the ground, which the government intends to employ to help deploy immigrants to regional areas of Australia. The agreements would be called “Designated Areas Migration Agreement (DAMA)” and has already been made known in two regions of the country; Warrnambool Region in Victoria and the Northern Territory.

Propaganda of the Agreement

The Immigration Minister for Australia, David Coleman had announced that these new agreements would open doors to acquiring Permanent Residence status in Australia for those who want to reside in the Regional areas. Also, because of these agreements, employers in Victoria and the Northern Territory would be allowed to sponsor workers using the subclass 482 visa. The workers would after that be permitted to apply for Permanent Residence.

With these agreements, employers can use professions that are not being mentioned in other visa categories to sponsor foreign workers. These employees would be accepted with a lower level of proficiency in English and lower salary level.

The first region in Australia to sign these agreements is the Great South Coast Region in Australia and would be followed shortly by the Northern Territory.

Although the Northern Territory had an existing DAMA in operation, it did not allow Immigrant workers to obtain a Permanent Residence.

Nigel Scullion, a CLP senator of the Northern Territory, opines that the Designated Areas Migration Agreement will be very good for entrepreneurs and employers in Northern Territory who are in need of workers. He said, “Businesses in the Hospitality and Agricultural sectors in the Great South Coast Region will benefit so much from the agreement as they have over 117 vacancies that can be filled through this agreement.”

The City Council Mayor of Warrnambool, Tony Herbert, mentioned that attaching the right to gain a Permanent Residence status through this visa makes the offer a lot more appealing to Immigrants.

According to David Coleman, the Australian Government is putting in efforts to ensure that the migration system is highly improved to also favour migration to regional areas.
